What Are Useful Mockups?

A Useful Mockup is a moving mockup for a moving world. Showcase your work on a billboard or a device screen to help get buy-in from a client. Or simply level up your portfolio presentation. Go from static PDF to exciting motion reel in no time. From student to freelancer to enterprise - everyone benefits from presenting better. Watch the How-To video right on the homepage!

What Do I Need To Use A Useful Mockup?

You’ll need a high speed internet connection to download your files as well as basic knowledge and a subscription to Adobe After Effects. All of our Useful Mockups work with After Effects 2022 and higher and are compatible with mac or pc.

Where Do I Find My Downloads?

First off, thank you for purchasing one of our mockups! After placing your order you will receive a confirmation email with links to download your specific product. Some of the mockups are on the larger side of file sizes so ideally download on a high speed connection. If you have any issue whatsoever please reach out to support@usefulmockups.com and we’ll get you sorted asap.

How Many Times Can I Download My Purchase?

All of our mockups can be downloaded a total of 2 times per purchase. We know, sometimes we all misplace the download or we have fat fingers. If you need to unlock more downloads for any legitimate reason, please reach out to support@usefulmockups.com and we’ll get you sorted asap.

I've Opened My Project - Now What?

We aim to make our mockups incredibly simple to use. Watch the how to video on our homepage and simply follow along. You’re 90 seconds away from having a Useful Mockup ready to export into your presentation. If you have any issue whatsoever please reach out to support@usefulmockups.com and we’ll get you sorted asap.

Why Are My Comps Empty?

When you open your After Effects project file, you may find yourself wondering why the compositions seem to be empty! Rest assured all of the magic is there - we’ve utilized a wonderful AE feature called “Shy” layers. A shy layer is simply a layer with a visibility toggle switch turned on or off to clean up the amount of visible layers in a given composition. We use them across the projects to make it as straightforward as possible for our users. We have set everyone up for success regardless of their experience level with AE. If you want to see what is under the hood just click the little eyeball icon and all will be revealed. But for the purpose of exporting your Useful Mockup - just follow the steps in the how-to video on the homepage and you won’t need to do anything else.

What Type Of Graphics Can I Place Into A Useful Mockup?

Any file that is acceptable to After Effects can be dropped into our Useful Mockups. The most common types for static campaigns - think static billboards and signage - are JPG or PNG files. For moving campaigns - think digital billboards or newsstands - are any video format supported by AE. The most common are MOV or MP4 files supplied by you or your creative team.

How Does Licensing Work?

We’ll keep it to plain english for here. We have 3 license tiers. If you’re a student or freelancer and just want to show your work in a better format - choose individual. If you’re a small studio or company that is being paid to use our mockups in your presentations - choose studio. And if you’re a large company working on huge campaigns or are planning to use our mockup in your feature film - purchase corporate. Read the full license terms here.

Why Is There A Price Difference Between Licenses?

The main difference is how & what you plan to use our mockups for. Beyond that, each tier has a different level of control available to you. For the individual license - you’ll have a pre-graded 1080p video. At the Studio license level you’ll have a 1080p video with access to the raw color information should you wish to grade the project to match the rest of your project. And at the corporate license level you’ll receive a 4K project file and access to the raw color information of the video.

Do I Need A Separate License For Each Project?

Short answer - yes.

How Do I Change The Mockup To Match The Colors Of My Project?

The beauty of a Useful Mockup is that all of the heavy compositing work is done for you. But sometimes you’ll want full control of the color grade of your presentation. You’re in luck - when you purchase a Studio or Corporate license, the AE projects allow for access to the RAW color data of the video. Simply apply your own LUT or manipulate the one in the file to suit your project needs.

What Are Useful Mockups Shot On?

All of our Useful Mockups are shot on Netflix/Broadcast approved cameras at a minimum of DCI 4K resolution.
